How community confirmations work

Different kinds of evidence answer different questions. UrbanPlantz keeps a location check separate from plant identity, harvesting access and current conditions.

Needs confirmation

A historical record or new submission is a report awaiting an independent location check. It may be out of date or have an uncertain plant name. Read the notes and date before visiting.

Location confirmed

Another signed-in contributor has checked the reported location. The person who submitted a spot cannot confirm their own submission. The spot displays its last location-confirmation date where available.

This status does not establish species identity, edibility, current fruit, land ownership or permission to harvest. Treat each of those as a separate question.

Identification needed

A suggested plant name outside the catalogue remains identification needed. A catalogue plant name is also a reference label, not proof of the identity of a particular plant. Compare field features with appropriate local expertise and sources.

Current conditions

Fruit and no-fruit observations carry their own dates. A location can be confirmed while having no fruit today. Seasonal reference notes describe typical timing in southern Ontario and cannot replace a current field observation.

Make a useful check

Visit only where access is permitted. Use the confirmation flow for a location you independently checked; add a photo or finding note when helpful. If a location is wrong, removed or duplicated, use its report option for a correction.
