Plum
Prunus spp. · European plum reference: Prunus domestica
A flowering fruit tree bearing fleshy stone fruits in purple, red, green or yellow. The flesh is eaten fresh or cooked. European, Japanese and native plums are different species or hybrids.
Native range
European plum has Eurasian origins; other plum species occur in Asia and North America.
Typical season
Broad southern Ontario summer–autumn range across cultivars; one tree's season is usually much shorter.
Identification
Compare leaves, flowers, fruit and the single stone. Prunus domestica is a cultivated reference; it does not identify every plum pin. Discard stones and kernels, and do not use leaves or twigs as food.
